Practise multiplying and dividing negative numbers by asking one question first: are the signs the same or different? Work out the numbers, then decide the sign. 16 questions, full answers included.
Worksheet (half page, 8 questions): the first four multiplications ask whether the signs are the same or different before working out the numbers, then two divisions give the calculation without the signs to start from. The support then fades to a quantity that falls by the same amount each hour and a missing-number problem.
Further practice (half page, 8 questions): graded by difficulty, including a multiplication grid to complete, comparing two calculations, finding a missing number, a submarine going down in equal stages, a quiz score with negative points, a mean temperature, and checking a claim about multiplying three negative numbers.
Answers to all 16 questions are included as a separate file.
Suitable for GCSE Foundation (AQA N2) and for Key Stage 3 classes working on negative numbers.
