This MYP-aligned Criteria B & C lab explores the physical change of matter through dissolution, linking directly to the kinetic theory of matter. Students investigate how temperature affects the rate at which sugar dissolves, using particle theory to explain how increased kinetic energy leads to faster particle movement and more frequent collisions.
The resource supports key scientific skills including hypothesis formation, variable identification, data processing, and evaluation.
This is great for introducing Criterion B and C skills after students learn about matter and the physical vs chemical changes of matter.
