This is designed to unpick the term intonation. Often used by teachers, but do our pupils understand the true meaning of it? Most probably, not.

This lesson simply works through the three types of intonation that we can use with our voices. Allow the children to try with their partners at each stage. I actually used this for our an e-learning lesson and the children sent voice recordings via Microsoft teams! If you are thinking for a classroom setting try KAGAN techniques to attempt their intonation activities. It then discuss the difference with expression also, so the children do not confuse the two.

All activities included:
Bronze - BE
Silver- A
Gold -AE
Platinum - Extension

In addition, I have included a screen recording of my voice teaching alongside the PPT. This can be used for your own PD and understanding of how to teach this very specific area that often gets brushed over!

To have a deeper understanding of the text the children need to show intonation and expression, especially this will support our EAL learners.
