Newton’s Third Law is fundamental, but it is surprisingly easy for students to recite the Law without understanding the physics.
This resource is designed to change that.

Unique to bedrock physics (at the time of writing), you get an interactive HTML page that allows students to see and investigate the physics for themselves.

###Powerpoint lesson
to take students from first principles to exam application.
*Smart Start / Do Now - activate prior knowledge and get students thinking from the outset
*Clear explanations - build the key ideas step by step, with a focus on genuine understanding
*Misconceptions put right - confront the common ways students misunderstand Newton’s First Law
*Exam-style questions - apply the ideas in the way students will encounter them at GCSE.
*22 slides

###Interactive HTML
*just double click the file to open in a browser
*Distinguish between force pairs and balanced forces
*Gain clarity about drawing force diagrams
*Reinforcement through many real world scenarios
*Ideal for teacher demonstration, paired work or independent learning. Makes great quality cover lesson work too.
*Runs directly in a web browser, on smartboard, ipads, laptops, no internet required.

The webpage includes
A recap of types of contact and non-contact forces (sorting activity)
A step-by-step explanation of every concept hidden in Newton’s 3rd Law
many real world examples
Detailed explanations that tackle the common problems when trying to consider forces on one, two or three objects.
Two simulations that allow students to ‘freeze’ the interactions between objects, and see the force vectors that are acting at any given moment in time, or watch how the vectors change over time when they unfreeze the motion.
Lots more practice questions.
Two more games, based on equal and opposite forces between two objects, to consolidate the learning objectives.

Bedrock Physics
Building physics understanding from the ground up.

Bundle

Newton's Laws - complete lessons

**Bundle of three complete lessons on Newton's Laws of Motion.** Alongside each lesson's powerpoint there is an interactive, standalone HTML resource, designed for whole-class interactive whiteboard demonstrations, individual student practice (iPads, laptops, chromebooks), or low-prep cover work. Zero setup required: simply double-click the file to run directly in any web browser without an internet connection or software installation. The html files are the star resources. They contain teaching blocks, simulations, multiple choice questions and games to give a more intuitive grasp of the physics as students see how forces and motion play out in various scenarios. Use in normal lessons, or keep up your sleeve to set when you need cover work. *Want to see the free body diagram of forces on a trampoling elephant? You've got it. And the Newton's Third Law Force pairs diagrams. And the ability to freeze frame the action. Want to see how a rocket will drift forever through space until a force acts on it. You can do that, and attempt to dock the rocket at a space station. Want to play with unbalanced forces on a submarine, or calculate whether a tram will accelerate quicker than a tank, a motorbike quicker than a race car, then watch them race head to head to see if your calculations were correct? What about watching how resistive forces bring objects to a halt, whether it is a car on a road or a curling stone that you are trying to land on a target? All these are included and more besides, along with many quiz style questions.* The idea is to give everyone a robust grasp of how the fundamental laws of physics apply in many settings. While you can't be everywhere in the lab at once to give individual guidance, students can self-guide through different levels of the html page. To open an html file, simply double click. It will open in a browser, just as double clicking a .xls would open in excel or a .ppt would open in powerpoint.
