I created and used this planning towards the end of Year 2 to gather more evidence of non-fiction writing based on fictional creatures. This is a short 2 week unit where children invent their own mixed up minibeast, make it, describe it’s appearance, habitat and diet using a modelled text about monsters.

Included are the teaching ppts, the modelled text and a checklist for what children should include in each section as well as vocabulary banks to support children with tier 3 vocabulary.

I also linked this to Science, Art (children made their minibeasts using clay) and also to creating poems about the children’s mixed up minibeasts.

This is a great, short unit, especially if more evidence is required for students.
