This 'easy to use' resource provides step by step instructions for children to learn how to read music. It starts with introducing words with different rhythms. i.e. fly - one, spider - two, caterpillar - 4. Lady-bird has two fast and one slow and Grass- hopper is the same reversed. These rhythms are first clapped and then played on untuned instruments and finally played on tuned instruments using the pentatonic scale of C D E G A. The SMART explains it all. There are sheets with bars for children to compose their own music. I recommend laminating these for multiple use. This resource has a lot of scope and can be used from Year 2 to Year 6 depending on the complexity of the rhythms. I wouldn't recommend years 2 and 3 using tuned instruments at this stage.
