‘In a game of three-dimensional noughts and crosses how many possible winning lines can there be? The best results from this little problem always come when you ask students to draw a solution, visual learners nearly always come up with amazing solutions, lots of colours helps as well.

A nice problem solving activity based on the classic game noughts and crosses but with a twist, its in 3D! A great idea for getting pupils to work things out and prove their answer. Could be used as a paired activity. Loads of potential here, including making the grids bigger, i.e. 4x4 what happens?
