Properties of Triangles
Key Stage: 2 ★★★

How many different triangles can you make on a circular pegboard with nine pegs?

This problem will help learners extend their knowledge of properties of triangles. It requires visualisation, a systematic approach and is a good context for generalisation and symbolic representation of findings.

This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions.

This has saved me so much time and planning, and has been a great way of incorporating more problem solving in, what could have been a boring 'identify the triangles' type of lesson! Lots of APP evidence will definitely come from pupil talk in this lesson. There's also a quadrilaterals lesson in the same format as this on the website, which is more open - ended in solution.
