Data - Processing and Representing
Key Stage: 3 ★★

The interactivity allows you to test the performance of different training regimes on your rowing crew. Can you gather some data to decide on the best training regime?

This problem will require students to explore and optimise a small number of connected variables with some random variation operating. They will also need to keep track of their results and summarise them effectively using statistical techniques.

This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions.

A nice idea to bring some real life maths into the classroom. Students can play about with a rowing teams's workout regime, including 'circuits, 'running' and 'rowing' and have to try to find the optimal regime to maximise performance in a race.
