NSW Stage 1 (Years 1-2): 285 subject comments + 114 opener, closing and work-habit lines (399 in all) and an A-E comment picker for Excel and Google Sheets. Type first names, pick an English grade and a maths grade (A-E), and the picker builds three comments for every student: English, mathematics and a general comment. Strengths come from the focus areas you taught this semester, and each English and mathematics comment ends with a next step and a strategy. Then read, edit and paste.
Written for the NSW English K-10 (2022) and Mathematics K-10 (2022) syllabuses.
What’s included:
- 135 English comments across all 9 focus areas: Oral language and communication, Vocabulary, Phonic knowledge, Reading fluency, Reading comprehension, Creating written texts, Spelling, Handwriting, Understanding and responding to literature
- 150 mathematics comments across all 9 focus areas, from Representing whole numbers to Chance, plus Working mathematically
- Strengths for A, B, C, D and E and next steps for A/B, C and D/E in every focus area
- 30 subject openers, 48 openings and closings (Semester 2 and Semester 1; Positive, Steady and Supportive) and 36 work-habit lines
- The comment picker for up to 40 students and a 37-page PDF of every comment with character counts
How the picker works:
- Mark the focus areas you taught (Y/N); the picker rotates through them so neighbours get different strengths, or you pick one yourself
- Word and character counters with your school’s limit for each comment (defaults 150, 150 and 200 words, as on the NSW public school report template); a comment over the limit turns red
- 1-3 strengths and 1-2 next steps per subject; the general comment (about 60 words) takes its tone from the grades; optional Effort (H/S/L) picks the work-habit lines
- Semester 2 now, Semester 1 in June; He/She optional; Try another and Variation reshuffle the wording
- Composite class? The Year cell is a label only; comments are pitched across Stage 1, so a few lines go beyond Year 1 content (three-digit numbers, centimetres, quarter-past, number sentences with x). Edit those for Year 1 students.
- Add your own comments to the Bank tab
Written for NSW classrooms: plain English for parents and carers, third person, strengths first, early reading, writing and number covered, kind and specific D and E comments, Australian spelling. Works offline: no add-ons, no sign-ins, and names stay in your own copy.
Not included: English, mathematics and general comments only; no science, HSIE, PDHPE or creative arts lines.
Try it first: a free Stage 1 sampler with four focus areas is in the Diya & Dot shop. Stage 2 (Years 3-4) and Stage 3 (Years 5-6) packs are there too.
