Lesson Objectives:

  1. Students can calculate the mass and atomic number from decaying atoms.
  2. Students can qualitatively explain the valley of stability in a graph of N vs Z. Students can explain why different isotopes are more likely to decay through certain radioactive emissions.
  3. Students can explain why nuclear decay through alpha and beta emission also leads to gamma emission.
