Excel required - for generating random numbers
Suitable for KS2

The game develops several important Maths skills.
Each player is dealt two ( three or four) single-digit cards (e.g. 4 & 7.)
They arrange them to make a number closest to the Target Number.
The player whose number is closest to the Target Number rolls the dice…

Players are using:

Maths Skills = Place Value, Comparing Numbers, Ordering digits and Number Sense.

Reasoning Skills = Logical Thinking, Reasoning, Strategic Thinking and Decision Making.

Learning Objective: I can use my understanding of place value to arrange digits in order to make a series of numbers.

To make the game more challenging, players can be dealt 3 or 4 cards for each game.

A new set of random numbers is created every time the Target Number file is opened.
If you use a Mac, pressing the fn key then the f9 key will also produce a new set of random Target numbers. This is particularly useful when you want to see the numbers before printing.

Instructions for game board setup and game rules are provided.
Target number files provided
Life & Lucky Dip cards are provided
Single digit game cards 1-9 are provided

I suggest you print multiple copies of all the number files and yes, there is quite a deal of preparation with printing, cutting out and sticking on card. It will, however be worth the effort.
Your pupils can certainly help with the cutting out.
