This a full lesson topic with six sequential lessons covering content from the OCR A, A Level Bio topic ‘2.1.4 Enzymes’.

The lessons are designed to be delivered in the following order:

  1. Role of enzymes
  2. Mechanisms of enzyme action
  3. Effect of temperature and pH on enzymes
  4. Effect of substrate concentration on enzyme action
  5. Cofactors, coenzymes and inhibitors
  6. End-product inhibition

In all of my PowerPoints for my A Level Biology lessons, you can expect to see most or all of the following:

  • A retrieval practice starter in the form of a “5 in 5”
  • A lesson hook or career link to make current learning relevant to pupils
  • Regular retrieval of prior knowledge throughout the lesson, such as GCSE content or links to previous topics

  • Frequent checks for understanding in the form of whiteboard quizzes, hand signal quizzes, and multiple choice questions from exam papers
  • Guided student discussions to support higher order thinking and development of ideas
  • Deliberate practice tasks designed to apply newly learned knowledge, always complete with answer slides
  • Embedded exam questions, always including mark schemes
  • A short plenary task to consolidate learning
