A one-page creative starter that turns an everyday object into something else. We all know what it is - the task is to pretend we don’t.
The child is given an ordinary paperclip and asked to imagine it is not what it seems, then draw the rest of whatever it has become. It works because the starting point is so familiar: the moment a child decides it is a diver’s air pipe, or a giant’s earring, the rest of the drawing arrives on its own.
There is no correct outcome and nothing to copy, so every child can start straight away and no child can be behind.
Page 1 is for you, not the children: when to use it, how to run it in four steps, the one rule that makes it work, and three things to say to a child who says “I can’t think of anything”. Page 2 is the sheet you print for the class.
