One World is a year-long classroom project that begins with one simple question: What happens when children are given an empty world and asked to make it work?
This starter guide shares the framework I’m using as I begin One World with our class.
Children start with their own community, a family, limited supplies and a specialist natural resource. As communities become established, they begin to trade, work with the council and make decisions about how their world develops.
This is deliberately a starting point, not a finished year-long programme. I’m beginning the project alongside my class, and the direction our world takes will be shaped by the children’s ideas, decisions and the problems that emerge along the way.
As the world develops, this could lead into population growth, transport and infrastructure, schools and services, jobs, money and banking, environmental challenges and much more.
Different ages and classes may take their worlds in completely different directions.
I’ll continue sharing how our One World develops throughout the year, along with new ideas and resources we create along the way.
Thisstarter pack includes: the initial set-up, council system, trading and resources, ideas for growing the world, guidance for using it in the classroom, and printable starter resources.
