Online safety KS1 PSHE lesson. A one-hour long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS1. This lesson has been created for Year 1, however, the activities are also suitable for students in Year 2, and could easily be adapted for use with older students.
In this lesson, the children will learn about online safety rules and the reasons why we need to protect ourselves online. We will read Chicken Clicking by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross, before completing activities linked to the text. We will discuss the importance of asking permission before we use the internet and reflect on the reasons why we need to avoid sharing information about ourselves online.
The lesson includes a starter activity, a story with accompanying questions, an online safety poster activity, and a plenary task.
The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.

Safe and Smart Choices - Year 1
Safe and Smart Choices Year 1 PSHE In this Year 1 Wider World unit, we will learn about rules and why it is important to follow them. We will explore the internet and digital devices, as well as thinking about online safety as we discuss practical dos and don’ts, using the story Chicken Clicking to highlight online risks. In the latter half of the unit, our focus shifts to strengths, interests, and understanding our place in the community. In future years, we will revisit these ideas and develop a deeper understanding of our identities, collaborative communities and online safety. Each lesson is fully editable and compliant with DfE and PSHE Association guidelines, ensuring ease of integration into your chosen curriculum. This bundle offers flexibility for educators, providing the option to select individual lessons or mini-units rather than committing to a full scheme.
