A PPT based lesson for suitable for KS2 on the use of onomatopoeia. This resource is linked to the following English national curriculum reading comprehension objectives:
• Discussing words and phrases that capture the reader’s interest and imagination (Year 3 and 4)
• Discuss and evaluate how authors use language, including figurative language, considering the impact on the reader (Year 5 and 6)

This lesson is also useful for helping pupils to understand how to use onomatopoeia in their own writing.

The PPT contains:
• Clear explanation
• Three examples of classic text extracts which include onomatopoeia
• Three activities which require pupils to demonstrate their understanding of and use onomatopoeia
• Reflection questions enabling pupils to recap and consolidate their understanding at the end of the lesson
