Practise ordering fractions by rewriting them over a denominator they all share, then comparing the numerators. 16 questions on one A4 page, full answers included.
Worksheet (questions 1 to 8): sets of fractions to write in order, with boxes to rewrite each one over a shared denominator. The support fades as students choose the denominator themselves, order largest first, decide which of two fractions is bigger, and work out who eats the most pizza.
Further practice (questions 9 to 16): graded by difficulty. Longer lists to order smallest or largest first, the shortest of three ribbons, a list that mixes fractions with a decimal, two jugs, parcel weights given as mixed numbers, testing Mia’s claim that 5/8 is bigger than 2/3, and finding a whole number that puts a fraction between 1/2 and 3/4.
Answers to all 16 questions are included as a separate file.
Suitable for GCSE Foundation (AQA N1) and for Key Stage 3 classes working on fractions.
