Lesson 8 of 8 in a series of lessons that links to the origins of the First World War.

This lesson examines the impact of the assassination on international relations and how this led to the outbreak of World War I.

Students will examine:

  • source analysis of the role of alliances in causing WWI
  • chronological task on the July Crisis
  • comprehensions questions
  • describe two features exam question
  • table outlining the role of each country in starting WWI
  • interpretations of the cause of WWI
  • what is the main difference between interpretations exam question
  • which interpretation do you agree with more exam question

This is part of a series of lessons that aims to encompass the new 9-1 GCSE and IGCSE skills into Key Stage 3.

Lessons are colourful and engaging, include differentiated tasks using a range of methods, such as:

  • matching keywords
  • how to answer questions/structure
  • card-sort
  • chronological tasks
  • videos and crib sheets
  • arranging by significance
  • comprehension and questions
