Active outside activities to teach segmenting into syllables for spelling, with suggestions for differentiating and adapting for different ages.
As well as the benefits of fresh air and exercise, the enjoyment factor and the wellbeing effects of green spaces, outdoor experiences are also crucial for children’s development. Young brains grow through experimenting with different textures, hearing different sounds, inhaling different smells. Even germs (in small amounts) are needed to develop healthy immune systems.
This activity can be used in phonics to sound out words into phonemes or with older children to segment words into syllables. All you need is few sticks to take spelling out of the classroom and off the paper.
