Support your Year 3 child’s literacy development with this structured, research-informed phonological awareness intervention pack — designed specifically for children aged 7–8 with dyslexia or dyspraxia.
Ideal for class teachers, teaching assistants, and SENCOs who want to recommend a home support resource to parents and carers, this pack can also be used confidently by non-specialist teachers who wish to support their own child outside of the classroom. Grounded in Structured Literacy principles and written in accessible, jargon-light language, it follows the same evidence-based approach used by specialist intervention leads — no prior specialist knowledge required.
What’s Inside
A two-book set: a 22-page Parent Support Guide (Book 1) and a 60-page Pupil Activity Book (Book 2), containing the following:
- Pre- and Post-Assessment with Scoring Guides — A 56-item diagnostic assessment spanning all seven skill areas, with expected answers and plain-English guidance to help you identify your child’s starting point and measure genuine progress after completing the programme. Includes clear, parent-friendly instructions for each section of the programme, covering:
- Rhyming Activities
- Syllable Segmentation
- Onset & Rime
- Phoneme Identification
- Phoneme Blending
- Phoneme Segmentation & Elkonin Boxes
- Phoneme Manipulation
- “How to Support Your Child” Guidance for Every Section — Each section includes step-by-step delivery tips, a worked example to try together before starting the worksheets, and specific advice for what to do if your child finds a particular skill tricky.
- Gain Score Interpretation Table and Next Steps Guidance — A straightforward two-step results tool for comparing pre- and post-assessment scores, with performance band descriptions and clear recommendations for what to do next — including when to involve school.
- 60 Print-Ready Pupil Activity Pages (Book 2) — Engaging, clearly laid-out worksheets covering all seven sections, printed in a dyslexia-friendly font on clean white backgrounds. Answer pages are included for parent reference and are clearly marked so they can be kept separate from the child’s copy.
How to Use
Administer the Pre-Assessment at the start to establish a baseline, then work through the seven sections in order using the delivery notes in Book 1 while your child completes the corresponding activities in Book 2. Once all seven sections are complete, use the Post-Assessment and gain score table to measure progress and determine next steps. Individual sections can also be used in isolation to target specific areas of difficulty identified during the Pre-Assessment.
