2-hour KS4 lessons for Edexcel GCSE History module: The American West c.1835-c.1895, introducing the Plains Indians and looking at how they survived on the harsh Plains. Interactive presentation lessons where students become experts in one aspect of Plains Indian life and then teach their classmates.

Accessible for all ability groups and the resources are easily differentiated for more and less academically able students.

This lesson includes…

  • ISM Video Starter - Introduces one of the key utensils of Plains Indian life, the Buffalo, and the many uses.
  • Introduction to the Plains Indians and the different ways they live their lives from region to region.
  • Research activity using Edexcel textbooks to facillitate the learning, students will prepare presentations in groups based on their different assigned aspects of Plains Indian life.
  • Groups will then present and fill out the Grid resource based on other group’s presentations.
  • Peer-quizzing plenary
