I have included the answers given by my son (who passed the test). They give a realistic idea of the level of answers required by a child to pass the test.

When preparing for the eleven plus there seemed to be a lack of practice questions available for the poetry questions. As a qualified teacher, I developed these poetry practice questions in 2025 to help my son prepare.

I carefully selected poems that I thought children of this age might be able to cope with and have an opinion on.

I feel sure that anyone preparing for the St Olave’s stage 2 examination will find this resource extremely helpful. Other grammar schools with a poetry analysis section may also find this useful.
