Prefixes and suffixes pack in the Orton-Gillingham style: 10 affixes with reference cards, word lists, sentences, a passage and a progress check with answers.
Help students decode and spell longer words with this Orton-Gillingham aligned practice pack on prefixes and suffixes. It covers five prefixes (un-, re-, pre-, dis- and mis-) and five suffixes (-ful, -less, -ness, -ly and -ment), taught through explicit, structured practice.
What is included (9 pages, print-ready PDF):
A teacher page with meanings, spelling notes and a suggested teaching sequence
10 reference cards, one for each prefix or suffix, with meanings and example words
Word lists for the prefixes and for the suffixes
10 practice sentences for reading aloud or dictation
A passage, “The Old Treehouse”, with comprehension questions and a word-finding task
A progress check with an affix and base word table, word sums and a sentence to read aloud
Full answer keys
How to use it: Teach the prefixes un- and re- and the suffixes -ful and -less first, then add the rest. For every word, students say the word, find the base word, cover the prefix or suffix, read the base word and then read the whole word. Word sums such as un + safe = unsafe show how the parts fit together.
Why teachers will love it: The pack builds on syllable division and gives students a clear routine for reading and spelling longer words. It suits small groups, 1:1 sessions and intervention, and needs no preparation beyond printing.
Suitable for: Primary and elementary students, intervention groups, dyslexia support, tutors and parents.
