An activity my students use to prepare for their speaking exam - it can be done as a short 10 min filler activity or for as long as you want. They also used this to practise in their own time & with the French assistant.
Basically they work in small groups - each group has a pack of playing cards. They take turns to pick a card, and then respond to the question for that card. You can do some really good peer assessment with this - other students comment on what they did well & how they could improve their answer.
