This German progress wheel is ideal for students in Key Stage 4 to track their progress in each of the four skills that are tested in both the foundation and higher GCSE German.

The four segments are divided into listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students shade in each segment, so that each segment corresponds to their current working level in each skill.

This sheet can be stuck in students’ exercise books to track progress in each skill. It can be used at the start of the year to reflect students’ starting points and then in the middle of the year, to track progress made. It can also be used at the end of the year to track progress across the academic year.

This sheet prompts students’ to think about their strengths, areas for development and next steps forward to close any gaps. It helps teachers to plan intervention effectively.

It is a very useful planning and evaluation tool for teachers. This wheel acts as an encouragement to action.
