Pseudo-word fluency practice for Year 1, grouped by the structure that makes each word hard rather than thrown together at random.

That grouping is the point. A mixed list tells you a child is struggling; a grouped list tells you where. If the cluster sheet is slow and the CVC sheet is fluent, you know what to teach on Monday.

Included (print PDF + fully editable PowerPoint):

  • Six fluency sets, 30 words each — simple words, ending clusters, starting clusters, vowel teams, split digraphs, and the long ones
  • A race-yourself timing tracker on every sheet — the child’s own last score, never anyone else’s
  • Support version with sound buttons under every grapheme
  • Teacher notes, including an honest caution about overdoing speed work

Built for the three minutes before lunch rather than for a lesson. Accuracy first, then smoothness, then pace: a child reading fast and wrong has learned the wrong lesson, and it is harder to undo than slowness.

Every word checked. All invented words are written fresh for this pack and machine-checked: decodable with the correspondences the DfE assessment framework sets out, not a real English word, and not a homophone of one. No past paper is reproduced.

Clear layout, generous spacing and dyslexia-aware design throughout, following British Dyslexia Association style guidance.
