In this comma lessons, students will explore the different comma rules through group work and coming up with example sentences. This is mostly student lead learning through group work.

The lesson contains a starter, a video, a group task, a plenary, a worksheet that can be used as homework, and an overview of the comma rules that can be used in class in stead of the group work.

**What you need for this lesson: **

  • you will need to print out the comma rules
  • You will need post-it notes
  • Sugar paper or an A3 size paper for each group.
  • A whiteboard and board pen

Coming out of this lesson, your students will know the most important rules for using commas correctly. Their progress can be measured through the example sentences on the sugar paper and the post it notes in the plenary.

I have included simple rules as well as more complex comma rules. This means the lesson can be used in all stages of KS3 and in ESL-heavy schools, Y10 will be able to use this resource too.
