Radiation
Subject: Physics
Age range: 14-16
Resource type: Lesson (complete)

This lesson was written for my bottom set yr10 GCSE physics class, and is designed for pupils who struggle with writing. The lesson can be printed out and given to pupils to work through at their own pace. It could be adapted for higher sets or used as an introduction to radiation with more capable students. The lesson doesn’t require IT access. It the teacher is trained with the handling of Radioactive Sources, they can be used during the lesson along with a Geiger Counter but this is not essential.
Lesson starts with a Do Now or “settler” activity that requires some knowledge of Atomic Structure and the history of the Atom and Atomic Model.
There is then information about Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation with associated comprehension questions.
Their is an independent learning page and then the lesson ends with a plenary task.
