Reading Detectives - Quick Inference Teaching Challenges

Sick of teaching inference using a long text and just a couple of questions? This booklet reverses that, with short texts used so that pupils can focus more on learning how to infer meaning from them. pupils are asked to justify their reasoning for each answer which is taken directly from the text. For each extract, pupils are also asked to come up with a title, which encourages them to show an understanding of the gist of the paragraph they have read. This booklet includes 10 inference activities and can be used with a variety of ages (KS2) and either as a class, group or individual resource.
