Rebellion or Revolution? Using Case Studies to Understand the Key Features

This lesson contains:

• An introduction to the main definitions of rebellion and revolution, using a short example and giving an opportunity to write the definitions into the student books.
• An activity to study a series of statements in speech bubbles and for students to decide whether they relate to rebellions or revolutions. This allows the students to consolidate their understanding of the key terms.
• A main task to study 4 real case studies from history. The students have to make notes as a mind map, using the map handout which shows the countries being studied, and decide whether they are rebellions or revolutions based on the features. Explaining why each is each shows key understanding of the different features.
• A plenary to test their knowledge of the learning from this lesson.
