Recount lesson resources. Key stage 1 and key stage 2. Discuss, plan, write a recount of a day out.

This is a weeks teaching power point, with Thursday/Friday being the main writing output.

This resource is for students learning to write their own recount. There is lots of I do, you do, talking to partners and working collaboratively before students write their own recount of a day out.

The lesson includes, subordinating conjunctions, coordinating conjunctions and expanded noun phrases as teaching points. I always heavily mark and give constructive feedback during the planning stage. They ‘purple pen’ (polish) their own writing before showing an adult.

You would ideally need sentence strips or sugar paper strips, white boards/pens.

This lesson is pitched at KS2 but i have used it for year 2’s in the past with success.
