You will need your own text for these lessons. Any fact book about recycling will work and some suggestions are made in the lesson plans. A book is not provided.

8 lessons in total best suited for children in Year 2 but could be adapted for children in Year 3 or 4 and possibly year 1. These lessons could be shortened to 4 or 5 lessons if less time was spent editing and polishing.

Links well to World Earth Day and any other Green or eco friendly initiatives within school.

This unit introduces students to persuasive speaking and writing through the topic of recycling. Learners begin by identifying key features of persuasive language and exploring why recycling is important for the environment. They then analyse examples of persuasive magazine articles to understand structure, tone, and techniques. As the unit progresses, students plan and write their own persuasive article about recycling, focusing on clear arguments and audience awareness. Opportunities to edit, improve, and present their work help build confidence and communication skills. The unit culminates in students creating a persuasive magazine article and a poster, demonstrating their ability to express ideas effectively and encourage others to take positive environmental action.
