I am a Deputy Director of English at a Harris Academy with years of experience authoring schemes of work and lessons that are outstanding, fun, engaging and challenging. Most importantly, they promote a love of literacy and the subject.

6-12 hours depending on ability.

These lessons are ready to teach. They have been purpose designed to accommodate home/virtual/remote learning. They have timers embedded to help with time management and would work very well as printed cover lessons.

The lesson can be very easily adapted to be used within a classroom environment. Dates etc. can be removed from the slides.

and The lessons target teaching KS3 English skills: Language Through Literature. These lesson teach from the top down but equally support SEND.

Features of lessons:

  • Standalone lessons using individual extracts (listed further down)
  • Consistently clear structure to lessons with a Do Now, active reading tasks, tasks that lead and scaffold towards a structures ALT (applied learning time - main task)
  • Stretch and challenge opportunities
  • Support in the form of vocab breakdown downs, definitions, modeling and examples, suggested sentence starters, visual aids and prompts
  • SEND friendly - cream and light blue background and dual coding, 1.5 spacing and comic sans font
  • Varied tasks that develop a range of English skills including comprehension and inference, language and structure analysis, creative writing and transactional writing
