AQA GCSE Physics and Combined Science | Isaac Newton’s Laws of Motion Reading Comprehension | Forces Disciplinary Literacy Task with Answers

Build students scientific reading and vocabulary with this Disciplinary Literacy resource/task describing Newton’s Laws of motion. Full Answers and mark scheme provided.

600-word article (with 1 image and 1 diagram) about Isaac Newton’s Three Laws of Motion and their relevance, with a glossary 10 questions that move through level 1 to level 3 demand for students to complete.

With an approximate reading age of 14-15, this resource is designed to match the AQA Combined Science and single science Physics specification for the Forces topic (4.5.4 or 6.5.4) covering Newton’s First, Second and Third Laws, resultant force, inertia and inertial mass. It could be used to either introduce Newton’s Laws of motion early in the topic, or later for consolidation, revision and intervention. The resource easily be adapted to other exam boards (such as Edexcel and OCR) or an International curriculum.

I would recommend guiding the students to read through once independently, then read through aloud to promote oracy, then allowing students to answer questions.
