The Library of I – Volume 1: Inherited Stories is a 20-poem sequence designed for students aged 11–15. The poems follow Nathaniel Tzao, a student navigating anger, conflict, and self-understanding within the challenging environment of a Pupil Referral Unit. As the narrative unfolds, Nathaniel discovers the Library of I — a symbolic inner world where memories, beliefs, and family histories appear as books stored on endless shelves.

Through imagery, symbolism, and a developing storyline, the sequence explores how behaviour is often shaped by inherited experiences and generational patterns. As Nathaniel begins to read the stories that came before him, he starts to question which parts of his identity are inherited — and which parts are still unwritten.

The collection blends grounded real-world scenes with a powerful extended metaphor of the mind as a vast library, making it ideal for teaching symbolism, narrative poetry, and reflective writing.
