Energy Resources: End of the Coal Era - Disciplinary Literacy for GCSE Physics/Science

Disciplinary Literacy resource/activity based on how the UK’s energy resource usage has changed over the last 25 years with a focus on the closing of the last coal power station and what was built to replace it. Build student’s reading and literacy skills in science, as well as cover National and global energy resources on the AQA Combined Science (6.1.3) and Separate Physics (4.1.3) specifications.

The 700-word article and comprehension task has an approximate age of 14, designed for mixed ability classes. A glossary and a range of questions from level 1 recall to level 3 evaluation is included to support all students.

Could be used as flipped learning to introduce energy resources within the Energy topic, or as consolidation homework, cover work or revision/intervention.
