WHAT YOU GET

  • 20 lesson slide decks, one per lesson, with clear tasks
  • Key Words A3 sheet for classroom display or sticking into books
  • Scheme of work and teacher guide, with the sequence and the thinking behind it
  • Seven-week homework booklet, one 30-minute task a week, with a teacher guide and answers
  • End-of-unit assessment on Malcolm’s speech, marked out of 30, with a full mark scheme
  • Writing tracker spreadsheet for recording progress across the unit

APPROACH
Every lesson follows a consistent routine: retrieval at the start, explicit teaching, guided practice, then independent writing. The writing sequence builds sentence by sentence, using sentence-combining and because/but/so tasks in the tradition of The Writing Revolution, so students learn to explain their ideas precisely before writing at length. Key vocabulary is taught and revisited throughout, and the lessons draw on Rosenshine’s principles of instruction, retrieval practice and modelling.

HOW TO USE IT
Teach it as a full unit from start to finish, or take individual lessons to support your own Macbeth sequence. The homework booklet works alongside the lessons or on its own. The assessment can be used as a summative task at the end of the unit.

SUITABLE FOR
KS3 English (ages 11 to 14). Also useful as an accessible introduction to Macbeth for younger or mixed-ability groups.
