Retrieval Practice / Starter Sevens

This slide can be used as a starter for lessons to simply remind teachers to plan for retrieval. Seven questions, which include a literacy/numeracy focus, two questions from old learning, two from less recent and two from current.

This helps students work hard to retrieve old knowledge and therefore better code it into long term memory. When used frequently and cross-departmentally, it helps to identify misconceptions and get students to think deeply.
