Identify the equipment and clothing worn by a Roman Centurion.

Objective: investigate how the Centurion would dress and carry all of his equipment.
Suitable for: Lower KS2

Children cut out the Roman Centurion figure and then attempt to layer the clothing and equipment on him so that they gain an understanding of how the components of the uniform fit together and how the weapons and equipment were carried.
An additional sheet is included with a table with images of the equipment and space to write a description.

The completed Centurion dressed and carrying all his armour make excellent illustrations which could be labelled with captions as the basis for a non-chronological report or to put in as a display in the classroom.

My children loved dressing him and exploring the different layers of clothing and equipment and it gave them a great insight in what it would have been like to carry such a large amount of armour and equipment. We got some fantastic pieces of writing out of this.
