Not sure of the English school level, but beginners here in NZ. My young students know days, dates, numbers and time, colours, so can manage to do this, and will research in groups of five one country per pool. It gre bigger than I thought it would, although it is repetitive, but that should reinforce the knowledge of numbers in particular.

Solid project/group learning. Students respond to questions based on the fixtures of the Rugby World Cup. Students are first asked to identify the flags of certain teams, label the colours in French, and then answer the following 5 questions about different matches (e.g.) Quelle est la date du premier jeu pour le Canada? C’est contre quel pays? Ce jeu va avoir lieu où et à quelle heure? Qui va gagner, penses-tu? Primary focus can be noting the dates and time in French. This groupwork concludes with research on the different countries (capitals, languages spoken, currency) to be answered in English. I would suggest adapting materials by increasing font, and asking end questions only about Francophone rugby countries (whether qualified for the World Cup or not).
