I then show the illusion of the parrot/woman to engage students into understanding that different people have different views of events - linking to the lesson topic
Video clip then shown for students to begin to develop some knowledge of the event - recording Who, What, Where, When and Why
Students then study two different accounts of the event completing the following questions:
1. Write down 5 key facts about the massacre.
2. Why might events like this be interpreted in different ways?
3. What conflicting views might you find?
4. Can we trust each source?
Plenary discussion - How did the Civil war help and then hinder the rights of the Plains Indians?
