Take your P2-P4 class on a journey through Scotland’s castles with this complete interdisciplinary learning pack, built around the Curriculum for Excellence First Level Experiences and Outcomes. Every activity stands alone, so you can teach it as a two to three week topic or dip in for single lessons.

The pack covers five curriculum areas:

  • Social Studies - label the parts of a castle, compare castle life then and now, and meet the people who lived there with eight illustrated role cards and a jobs sort
  • Literacy - a two-page non-fiction text on Edinburgh, Stirling and Eilean Donan castles, varied comprehension activities, a three-tower story planner and a writing page
  • Numeracy - count 2D shapes in a shape castle, name 3D shapes, complete symmetry tasks and measure towers drawn to exact centimetre heights
  • Technologies - a design-and-build castle engineering challenge with planning and evaluation sheets
Expressive Arts - design your own coat of arms and family motto

Every task comes with a low or no resource alternative in the teacher guide, so nothing depends on a full craft cupboard. The pack also includes a curriculum map with E&O codes, a suggested teaching route, full answers and a Castle Expert certificate.

All 22 pages are designed for A4 and print cleanly in colour or greyscale, with no dark backgrounds and generous white spaces for writing and drawing.

A Second Level version for P5-P7 and a money-saving bundle are coming soon.
