Sine Rule
Subject: Mathematics
Age range: 14-16
Resource type: Lesson (complete)
This resource is aimed at all KS4 students. It can be used to teach finding lengths and angles in right-angled triangles, as right-angled triangles are treated as a special situation when applying the sine rule. This saves getting students to learn rules such as SOHCAHTOA. There is also an emphasis on students learning how to adapt the sine rule if the triangle is not labeled ABC but say PQR.
There are two lessons. The first lesson teaches finding lengths using the sine rule. The second lesson teaches finding angles using the sine rule. Both lessons have an accompanying worksheet with worked solutions to the questions on the worksheet included in the presentation.
In each lesson, there is a lot of mini white board work helping students understand how the rule works, applying the rule to single triangles and using the rule to solve problems involving two triangles.
The lesson ends with a worksheet.
