A set of 4 worksheets giving structured practice with skeletal formulae for AQA AS and A-level Chemistry. Answers are included.
This resource covers both drawing skeletal formulae and naming compounds from skeletal formulae using IUPAC nomenclature. Each worksheet contains 9 questions, progressing from the foundations through to the more complex Year 2 content.
What’s included:
• Worksheet 1: Drawing skeletal formulae of hydrocarbons
• Worksheet 2: Naming hydrocarbons from skeletal formulae
• Worksheet 3: Drawing skeletal formulae of alcohols, halogenoalkanes, amines, aldehydes, ketones and nitriles
• Worksheet 4: Naming compounds from skeletal formulae across Year 2 homologous series - carboxylic acids, amides, amines, esters, acyl chlorides, acid anhydrides, halogenoalkanes, ketones and amino acids
• Full answer sheet
Worksheets 1, 2 and 3 are suitable for Year 1 and AS students, and make excellent revision for Year 2. Worksheet 4 is ideal for introducing the new compound types covered in Year 2.
These worksheets are also flexible enough to use beyond their primary purpose — students could be asked to draw displayed or structural formulae, empirical formulae, or isomers from the same questions, making them a versatile classroom or homework resource.
For broader practice with formulae, nomenclature and isomerism, my Introduction to Organic Chemistry workbook is available here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/organic-chemistry-for-a-level-workbook-introduction-12607872

Thank you for this, really useful for my year 12 students for practising. Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much! Real timesaver and first time I will be teaching this :)
