Social Commentary - Complete SoL and Knowledge Organiser

This is taught to year 9 in an ‘outstanding’ school over the course of a term.
Powerpoints and all resources are included as well as the knowledge organiser.
Social commentary covered is:
Feminism - Pankhurst’s ‘Freedom or Death’ and contrasting articles.
Civil Rights - King’s ‘I have a dream’.
Racism - Dave’s ‘Black’.
Immigration (debate lesson).
Reality television - contrasting articles.

There is retrieval practice in starter activities, spelling and definitions tests and explicit teaching of key vocabulary with use of the Frayer Model.

Regular extended writing opportunities include success criteria and model examples.
