Students will need to use the internet and have headphones or earbuds for this lesson.
First part they watch a 10min video on soil sizes (they compare the soil grain sizes to a golf, tennis, and volley ball) and how soil is different in different parts of the country showing different examples and discussing their properties. They also discuss organic matter and the role it plays in growing plants. Students answer 10 questions on the video.
The second webpage they go to they go through a virtual simulation of the USA looking at facts about soils in 9 different regions of the USA. At the end there is a short quiz. (yes on the quiz a added the letter D as a selection since the test only has options A-C to see if students guess on it.
This worked really good in my 6th grade classroom as a review of soil.
