Staying Safe: Stranger Danger – KS1 PSHE Lesson
A complete, pupil-facing KS1 PSHE lesson designed to help children understand what a stranger is, develop sensible safety habits and feel confident about who they can ask for help. The lesson deliberately avoids suggesting that unfamiliar people are frightening or dangerous; instead, pupils learn that most people are kind while practising simple strategies that help them stay safe.
Through accessible vocabulary, discussion, scenarios, talk-partner activities and checks for understanding, pupils explore trusted adults at home, at school and in the community, rehearse saying “No, thank you”, and learn what to do if they are approached, lost or unsure about a situation.
The lesson supports PSHE Being Safe, Relationships and Mental Wellbeing, alongside spoken language, vocabulary and assessment for learning.
Also included is a printable A4 Staying Safe At A Glance sheet. This black-and-white colour-in resource provides a visual summary pupils can revisit after the main PowerPoint lesson.
Key features include: pupil-friendly safeguarding language; trusted-adult guidance; practical safety scenarios; paired discussion and reasoning; independent work; True or False assessment; self-assessment and review; plus a printable At A Glance summary.
NB. This lesson was designed and written by a teacher. The draft PowerPoint was made by Claude AI, the graphically enhanced version was then made by ChatGPT, and all editing was done by Copilot. Every stage was overseen, amended where necessary, and approved by a teacher. Total time approximately 90 minutes.
