Storm on the Island by Seamus Heaney annotation lesson.
Groups of students to use guided questions (10 per group, 50 in total) to annotate their poems which they then feedback to the whole class. This is a great lesson to deeply analyse Heaney’s poem focusing on structure, meaning, imagery, language, and effect (SMILE).
I have personally taught this lesson to a middle set in year 9 and found it engaged the pupils and allowed them to work in teams and work on presentation skills.
