This is a great activity to get your students practicing their measuring skills as they explore objects in the outdoors (can also be done indoors). It’s a very simple activity that is great fun and easy to prepare.

For this measuring activity give each child, pair, or small groups a 1 meter bit of string. Get them to go around outside and use the string to measure different items. They can complete the table by drawing or writing the objects they find that are bigger than or less than 1 meter. It’s good to demonstrate how to effectively use the string to help them measure.

This resource contains 2 levels of differentiation.

**Diff. 1: **Students will complete the table by finding objects greater than and less than 1 meter.

**Diff. 2: **Students will use the string to measure different objects and estimate their length.
